Hello Top25Snuff members!
My name is Geoff and I am the founder of SnuffWiki. I’m sorry if I’m not allowed to type English but I feel that I’d like to shed a little more light on the project. I’d very much like to have a discussion so I kindly ask you to please leave this post.
• Firstly, the people behind the wiki are not Americans, we’re British (not that there’s anything wrong with Americans).
• Secondly, we do a banner exchange with 2 and only 2 websites: Mr. Snuff and Snuffhouse. I get ZERO money or gifts from those websites in return. The amount of people that visit those 2 websites is a lot, so it is for simple purposes – traffic to SnuffWiki via my banner on their homepages. How else would I go about advertising?
• The website is funded from my pocket and user donations ONLY.
• The website is EXTREMELY new. Me and the experts that I have recruited (tobacco historians and scolars) haven’t even started added content. I’m just finishing optimizing the site as of now (making it faster, more secure, coding custom plugins). This site is going to take a very long time to get to the stage that we all want it. Years even. Therefore it’s very unfair to judge it after little more than 4 days of being started.
• Also you’re right. Some of the snuff articles are clearly not what they should be. Opinions about a snuff have no place on a wiki. All information should be factual. There shouldn’t be reviews. Again, I’m very busy and have a lot of work to do all on my own. As soon as I finish up the programming I will not only begin to moderate all content but I will also find trustworthy moderators to help out too.
• THERE ARE NO CONFLICTS OF INTEREST. We are totally unsponsored and fully user-supported.
• We do not seek profit. I make ZERO money from the site. I spend about $100 a month in hosting fees (soon to go up to about $250). Additionally, after about 3 months from todays date I will have spent about £3000 on this project (and that’s excluding hosting fees and competitions). I doubt that I will ever make even half that back in the entire future of the wiki, but I don’t mind. It’s for something I love.
My overall point being, please give us time to develop and understand what we’re actually trying to achieve. It’s going to take a very long time and we know that. 4 days is nothing. After 4 years is where you should be judging us from. PLEASE read up on the facts. I’m quite upset that you guys have said such harsh and possibly slanderous things about the wiki, most of which is untrue and even the opposite of the truth.
If you have ANY questions PLEASE ask away, I have bookmarked this thread.
Sorry to introduce myself in such a negative way.
Thanks very much for your time.
Geoff.
